Player agent turned concussion advocate Peter Jess has urged players to keep the lawyers out of it and seek solutions – including a compensation scheme – directly with the AFL, as the league faces the prospect of ‘‘imminent’’ legal action over concussions.

Next Wednesday, Jess and barrister Tony Nolan, QC will sit down with the AFL’s head of legal, Stephen Meade, to discuss the league’s protocol when it comes to concussion management for former and current players. Jess welcomed the AFL’s move to commence discussions about how to improve its concussion policy.
