The Safety in Action SIA National Safety Convention 2012 brings to you a unique and unparalleled opportunity to take your professional development and network to the next level.
What is New This Year?
OHS Professional Development Workshops
On offer this year are a number of key workshops covering important topics such as leadership, safety systems, hygiene, safety psychology and human factors. These will be limited in numbers and facilitated by leaders in each field so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment. This will be held outside of the usual remit of the three day conference. For more details please email safetyconference@aec.net.au
Interactive Round Table Forum
Day one of the SIA National Convention will include an afternoon of stimulating discussion with your peers covering a wide range of topical issues. This proven format will create open channels of communication and learning as well as opportunities to network with your fellow professionals.
SIA National Safety Convention
Opening Breakfast
The convention will open with the riveting story of Derrick McManus, member of the SA Special Task and Rescue (STAR) Group, who was shot 14 times in less than 5 seconds when he and his team of 5 went to arrest a man. The story is the basis for one of Australia's most powerful, inspirational and really quite humorous presentations.
National Safety Convention
Over 40 International and Australian speakers over 3 days will offer incredible insight into current and emerging interests in the fields of Health and Safety at the inaugural SIA National Safety Convention. The themes of the three days are as follows:
Day One 17 April: Leadership
The opening day will have a great start with David Smorgon to deliver the keynote. David is a well known and widely respected business leader having spent 25 years as a senior executive and director of Smorgon Consolidated Industries - one of Australia's largest family companies. We will then have four more safety leaders giving invaluable insight followed by the interactive round table forum after lunch (see above).
Day Two 18 April: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
The second day opens with a keynote address from Dr Graham Phillips, presenter of ABC's Catalyst and one of the most accomplished science communicators in Australia. There are three streams to follow:
1. Responding to change in the economy
2. Managing Legislative change
3. Lessons Learnt: The good the bad and the ugly
Day Three 19 April: People
The convention's final day will feature a keynote from Worksafe Victoria followed by two streams:
1. Planning for work health
2. What works well
After last year's hugely successful final day panel discussion, we have incorporated it again this year. More details to come soon.
